Since we really only have one road on Kauai, it is truly hard to get lost. If you ask a local for driving directions, they will never tell you to turn right or left. There are only two directions that will be given, mauka (turn toward the mountains) and makai (turn toward the ocean). Since from anywhere you are you will know where the ocean is and you can see the mountains, this is actually the very best way to give instructions on how to get anywhere.  

Drive slowly here as the maximum speed limit is only 55 MPH and you won't even get that fast most of the time. 

Also remember that as of May 23, 2010 there is not cell phone use while driving!!!
